NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – Five Olympic medalists, plus a new generation of stars, are set to impress at the 2025 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships August 7-10 at Smoothie King Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Nearly 140 artistic gymnasts will be in the Crescent City to vie for national titles and spots on the U.S. Junior and Senior National Teams to conclude the domestic season. National Team berths will give athletes the chance to claim a place on the 2025 Senior and Junior World Championships rosters. The Senior World Championships will be hosted October 19-25 in Jakarta, Indonesia, while junior competition is set for November 20-24 in Manila, the Philippines.
Headlining the lineup in New Orleans are 2024 Paris Olympic team medalists Hezly Rivera, Brody Malone, Frederick Richard, Asher Hong and Stephen Nedoroscik. They will be joined in Louisiana by World team champions Joscelyn Roberson, Leanne Wong and Skye Blakely, and by two-time World medalist and seven-time U.S. champion Donnell Whittenburg.
New year, new champions
Women’s competition will crown new champions for 2025 with a stellar field that includes three veterans and a host of promising young stars. A 2023 World championships team medalist, 19-year-old Roberson is the 2023 U.S. vault champion and is coming off a third-place all-around finish at the 2025 U.S. Classic Presented by Saatva. The veteran of the group, the 21-year-old Wong is the 2022 U.S. champion on uneven bars and a five-time World Championships medalist, while 20-year-old Blakely is a two-time World Championships team gold medalist who is making her return to competition after coming back from injury in 2024. The trio are the only athletes among 24 entrants over 19 as the women’s field of young upstarts includes superstars-in-waiting. In her first season as a senior, 16-year-old Claire Pease took the all-around and vault titles at Classic and is among the favorites in New Orleans. Classic runner-up Simone Rose and Rivera, a breakout star of the 2024 Olympic Games, are both 17 and likewise have their eyes on a podium medal finishes.
The men’s field is rich with veteran experience, having won a combined 25 titles between them. Returning to defend their 2024 national titles are Malone on high bar, Richard on floor, Alex Diab on still rings and Nedoroscik on pommel horse, where he is the four-time defending champion. The defending men’s all-around champion with seven national titles on his resume (three all-around, two high bar, one vault and one floor), Malone will contest all but floor exercise and vault in New Orleans. Hong was the 2023 U.S. all-around champion while Richard was runner-up in 2024. All told, senior men’s entrants with past national titles on their resumes include Malone (7), Whittenburg (7), Nedoroscik (4), Diab (3), Richard (2) and Hong (2).
2024 junior men’s all-around champion Maksim Kan returns to defend his junior title, while Lavi Crain looks to go three-for-three in USA Gymnastics events this year after claiming all-around gold at Winter Cup this February and the U.S. Classic Presented by Saatva in July.
