
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (August 9, 2025) – Hezly Rivera (Oradell, N.J./WOGA Gymnastics) heads the senior leaderboard while Caroline Moreau (Keller, Texas/Texas Dreams Gymnastics) is the leading junior Friday following Day 1 of women’s competition at the 2025 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships.
Rivera in top form
Posting the high score on balance beam Friday evening, Rivera leads competition the senior women with an overall 55.600. Her 14.350 on beam coupled with the second-highest score on floor exercise (14.000) gave her a .200 lead over Joscelyn Roberson (Texarkana, Texas/University of Arkansas), who sits second all-around with a 55.400. The 2024 Olympic replacement athlete leads on floor (14.150) and is tied for the lead on uneven bars with Alicia Zhou (San Antonio, Texas/Love Gymnastics) with a score of 13.650. Leanne Wong (Overland Park, Kan./University of Florida) rounds out the top three in all-around with a 55.100, also leading on vault with a 13.675 (14.000, 12.950).
The senior athletes and coaches embraced the Squad Showdown, with Team London (also known as “Team Beignet”) taking the title with a score of 164.650 and a roster of Rivera, Wong, Claire Pease (Sunnyvale, Texas/WOGA Gymnastics), Harlow Buddendeck (Rochester, N.Y./RGA), Nola Matthews (Gilroy, Calif./Airborne Gymnastics Training Center) and Skye Blakely (Frisco, Texas/University of Florida). The squad had the best scores on beam (42.000) and floor (41.300).
Moreau leads juniors
In the women’s junior competition, Moreau currently sits first in the all-around with a Day 1 score of 53.700 across four events, bolstered by a first-place score on floor (13.550), a second-place score on beam (13.300), and third-place scores on bars (13.450) and vault (13.125; 13.400, 12.850). Charleigh Bullock (Spotsylvania, Va./Capital Gymnastics National Training Center) closely follows Moreau in the all-around, currently second with a combined 53.200. She also is first on bars (14.000), scoring the only 14-point result on any event in the session, and is third on balance beam (13.000). Isabella Anzola (Statham, Ga./WOGA Gymnastics) ranks third all-around with a 51.900 and also sits first on beam (13.600).
Amia Pugh-Banks (Newport News, Va./World Class Gymnastics) rounds out the apparatus leaders on Day 1, putting up 13.700 (14.100, 13.300) to land first.
Team London was the Squad Showdown champion among juniors with a combined score of 158.150. The team of Moreau, Addalye VanGrinsven (Champlin, Minn./Pacific Reign Gymnastics), Addy Fulcher (Gastonia, N.C./Georgia Elite Gymnastics), Sydney Williams (Frisco, Texas/Metroplex Gymnastics), Kylie Smith (Loveland, Ohio/Cincinnati Gymnastics), and Espy Chang (Kirkland, Wash./Pacific Reign Gymnastics) had the top combined score of the day on vault (40.150) and floor (39.850).
Competition in New Orleans continues Saturday, August 9 with the second day of men’s action starting at noon CT for junior men and 5:30 p.m. CT for seniors. The junior men’s session will stream live on the USA Gymnastics YouTube channel while senior competition will be broadcast live on CNBC.
